Good news for nurses!
Nursing staff will receive a bonus of 2,460 euros in 2023, significantly more than the approximately 2,000 euros paid out (increased by 500 euros only in Lower Austria) last year. To ensure the best possible care and support, the working conditions of the nursing staff urgently need to be improved, emphasized Social Minister Johannes Rauch. With an amendment introduced on Wednesday, the monthly payment will be fixed uniformly throughout Austria.
The motion on the Entgelterhöhungs-Zweckzuschussgesetz (EEZG), introduced in the Social Affairs Committee, provides uniform conditions for salary subsidies in nursing and care throughout Austria. For 2022 and 2023, the federal government will give the Länder a total of EUR 570 million in the form of special-purpose grants. A total of 150,000 employees will thus receive a salary bonus. For 2023, this amounts to 2,460 euros, including employer contributions per full-time equivalent. The subsidies are subject to tax and contributions. Rauch said they were “deliberately designed as a normal salary component; after all, we want to achieve a permanent increase in salaries.” Thus they also become pension-effective, explained the Ministry of Social Affairs in a dispatch.
In 2022, most provinces paid long-term care subsidies as a one-time payment in December. For this year, a monthly payment is planned. In addition, the amendment clarifies that salary subsidies for temporary workers can be settled with the federal government.
